Brighton's West Pier or whats left of it!

Visited Brighton recently and took some photographs of whats left of Brighton's West Pier.
Somehow sad but interesting. I can remember visiting it many times as a child. At least the east pier is still up and running.

Continuing with the French theme, we go to France at least once a year and stay with friends near a place called Nyons. This is a lovely little town in the Drome Provencal region in the foothills of the Alps. It has a great Market every Thursday which puts UK markets to shame.

Knock Knock Who's There?

Doors are fascinating things, what’s behind them? Where do they lead to? The French are very good at having a wide variety from the beautifully crafted with the best quality materials to old, aged and patch up.

Here are a few that I have seen on my travels.

Mrs. D has been busy creating these lovely pebbles out of recycled material. These pebbles are for sale at the House Gallery here in Olney. There are lots of other projects on the go, so watch this space.

Steam Again

Continuing with the steam theme, a couple from last year. The 1st is Tornado pulling The Coronation through Sandy station. Unusually, it’s on the fast line and flat out. This is because Jeremy Clarkson is the fireman as he was part of the Top Gear race.

Tornado again heading south and at a much more leisurely pace. I have found that hordes of train spotters appear when there a steam engine about and they are not all old codgers like me.
They also like taking photographs as well.

Steam

Having been a kid when railways still had steam and being an ex train spotter (it’s sad I know, but we didn't have computers etc etc in those days) I still find steam locos fascinating.

At the weekend there was an excursion being pulled by Princess Elizabeth going through Milton Keynes and I decided to have a go at photographing it. I contacted a good mate, Norman to drive down the A5 next to the line so that I could take some shots from the passenger’s seat, whilst Norman kept parallel.

Unfortunately there are 4 lines and the engine was on the furthest so all I could see was a funnel and smoke! Not to be deterred, we drove further south we caught up with it near Leighton Buzzard and here is the result. Not particularly happy with the pictures, but it could have been much worse.

1st of march and a glorious sunny day in Olney. Spring is in the air. Here is a hint of things to come to brighten the day even more.

Should you find yourself in Bath, the American Museum just outside is well worth a visit. As well as reconstructed rooms, there is an excellent patchwork quilt collection, lovely garden and grounds and much more. When we were there last year we found an interesting sculpture trail in the woods. It was exciting just to come across something so unusual.

Light snow in Olney AGAIN! Having a lazy day, so here are some shots of Olney in the snow.
